Read This If Your New Year's Intention Is To Declutter

Here's a guide to help with that!

Here's lots of ideas to help declutter and get organized! I've done all of these things to get my own space feeling clean and clear so hopefully some of it is useful to you!

1. The obvious one: donate the things in your home you'd like to give away. Great options for donation include:

  • Goodwill
  • Value Village
  • Habitat for Humanity (I get great deals on furniture items here BTW!)
  • St. Vincent De Paul
  • Local shelters

2. Free junk removal like Call-2-Haul if you're a Tacoma Public Utility (TPU) customer. This is where you get two free junk removals right from the curb of your home, twice a year.

2. If you'd prefer, you can also give away these items directly to someone else so they don't have to come out of pocket at the above stores! Facebook Marketplace or the local Buy Nothing groups are great for this.

3. Alternatively, you could also use Marketplace or other online platforms to sell some of the items you're giving away.

A fun way to do this is by visiting consignment shops near you. Some are niche-- like if you have baby items or children's clothes-- there are plenty of consignment stores geared towards those things such as:

  • Rhea Lana's events!
  • Children's Trading Post (Lakewood)
  • Blacksheep Retail (Lakewood)
  • Bert & Gerdy's is one of my personal favorites (Lincoln District in Tacoma)

If you'd like extra support in your intention to declutter, you can also check out this free workshop at the University Place branch library from time-to-time or Youtube has been helpful in finding easy ways to organize in a systematic way.

Let me know if you've tried any of the above or if you want to share a picture with me of your clutter-free space -- I'd love to celebrate with you about how great it looks!

Until next time neighbors,

Nic
